Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College and Hospital is a premier government-run medical institution located in Berhampur, Odisha, India. Established in 1962, it functions under the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, and is affiliated with Berhampur University. The institution serves as a key center for medical education, research, and tertiary healthcare in southern Odisha.

History and Background

Originally an extension of S.C.B. Medical College, the college was relocated to Berhampur in 1962 and renamed in honor of Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati, the first Prime Minister of Odisha State. The current campus was inaugurated in 1969, and the hospital building began functioning on-site in 1973. Over the decades, MKCG has expanded its intake from 40 to 250 MBBS students per year and introduced postgraduate and super-specialty programs in multiple disciplines.

MKCG offers undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate (MD/MS), and super-specialty (DM/MCh) programs across medical, surgical, and paramedical fields. Courses are recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and supported by state-of-the-art laboratories, a modern central library, and dedicated teaching facilities. Advanced facilities such as a telemedicine unit, diagnostic center, and trauma care block enhance its service capacity.
